To create the mark, we wanted to focus on the essense of boating culture.
What’s the simplest form of boating?
Movement.
All working boats move. Movement across an expanse of water is the essence of the boating experience; and all movement creates a wake. We focused on the wake as a visual element and a conceptual idea that ties into one of the main goals of Marinedustry. We were also inspired by the iconic quality of nautical flags, and thought it'd be a nice nod to the rich history of old boating communication.
The result: a mark created from an abstraction of the wake behind a boat, and the nautical flags for the letters "M" and "Y".
